I have been painting for thirty some years. I have traveled and extensively, from India to Iran to Kuwait to UK, Germany and to US. And last year I have moved from Bethlehem Pennsylvania to the East Bay. I have lived for long periods with amazing people and fascinating communities. Folk art, miniature art and Arabic Calligraphy are three strong influences on my art, adopted along my journeys. All textures and all colors are assimilated on my surfaces. I am creating a body of work of through continuous, lyrical line, to express joy in the universal spirit that unites humanity.

Many people ask how and why Silver Envelope got its start. It's quite simple: one woman's love of paper, stationery, and the need for Islamic products!
Raana Smith began creating Islamic stationery products at the tender age of 8 when she, with a permanent black marker, wrote "Eid Mubarak" on a plain ribbon purchased at K-Mart. As a child of the 80's, Raana longed for fun, classy ways to celebrate her Muslim holidays and special occasions.
As an adult, she started designing greeting cards and printed ribbons to use for the two Eids. People loved the gifts and cards they received so much that Raana started producing her cards and ribbons in higher quantities to offer to her friends and family. Slowly, she added a product or two per year and the response was great. In 2001, Raana started Silver Envelope.
Today, with a product line that includes greeting cards, invitations, wrapping paper and gift bags, scrapbook art, rubber stamps, and much more, what started as a hobby has turned into what some consider a service to the Muslim community. Silver Envelope has a great team of people with offices in Richmond, St. Louis, and Amman, Jordan.
